Background: Gene took his first job as a teacher in Cuba, NY (currently known as Cuba-Rushford Central School) and coached as an Assistant Football Coach. He began his second teaching job in 1979 at Cameron County High School, Emporium, PA, where he began his Varsity Coaching Career. Cameron County had posted a 20 game losing streak prior to Mastin's arrival and in four seasons he posted a 19-19-2 record.

Gene came to Hornell in 1983 teaching 2nd Grade and took the Varsity Head Coaching Position. He later became Guidance Counselor in Hornell High School and Athletic Director, and is now serving as Chief Information Officer for Hornell City School District.

Mastin also serves as Livingston County Athletic Association (LCAA) Football Chairman, December 2008 - Present.

Mastin lives in Hornell with wife Cheryl who works at Alfred University, and daughter Nicole currently attending Alfred University.

Notes: Gene Mastin became Section V All-Time Winning Leader on Friday, October 9, 2009 during an away game in Wayland-Cohocton. He received his 207th career win to surpass Don Santini who coached Fairport & LeRoy, retiring in 1992.

Coach Mastin received his 200th career win Friday, October 10, 2008 in front of a large home crowd when Hornell Red Raiders hosted Bath Haverling Rams. Coach Mastin was ranked 2nd in career wins for Section V behind Don Santini (206 wins). Santini coached Fairport & LeRoy teams before retiring in 1992.

Notes:

Chris Koehler will be joining the Hornell Football Program for the 2011 season. We are pleased to welcome Chris back to Hornell as a Varsity Assistant while he Student Teaches in the Hornell School District. Chris was a member of the Hornell Football Program 2003-2006. After graduation, Chris continued to play football at the collegiate level at SUNY Brockport.

Mickey Carretto retired as Offensive Line and Linebackers coach (1998-2008). Mickey continues to have involvement with Hornell Football as a Varsity Assistant. He and his wife Jen (both teachers in Hornell) have three daughters - Sophia, Stella, and Silvia. Mickey and Jen own and operate a dog boarding business as well.

Bob Young retired from the Hornell Football Program as Head JV Coach following the 2008 season and before then he served as an Assistant JV coach since 1996. Thanks to Bob for his years of dedication to Hornell Football. Bob played as a Red Raider 1967-1970 as did his three sons, Brian ('98), Mark ('01) and Scott ('06). Brian was inducted into Hornell's Hall of Fame in 2008. We wish Bob and his wife, Martha, a happy and enjoyable retirement. Both are retired from area school districts following the 2008/2009 school year.

Mark Buisch retired from the Varsity Defensive Coordinator position after the 2007 season. Mark continues to have involvement with Hornell Football as a Varsity Assistant. He and his wife, Kelly, are kept busy with their three boys (Brendan, Anthony and Collin). Brendan and Anthony are currently coming through the Hornell Football Program.

Mike Davidson retired from the JV Head Coaching position after the 2005 season. Mike continues to have involvement with the Hornell Football Program as Modified Head Coach. Mike was inducted into Hornell's Hall of Fame in 2008. Mike and his wife, Sharon, own a furniture business in Hornell. Their son, Eric, also played as a Hornell Red Raider ('07) and currently attends Bucknell University.Their daughters, Sandi and Laura, also graduated from Bucknell and are working in Philadelphia. Mike and Sharon are Bucknell Alums as well.
